Help with anxiety and depression
Anxiety and depression can make you feel overwhelmed and disregulated, or stuck and disconnected from yourself and the people around you. You might be struggling to get through the day, or just feeling like you’re not quite yourself anymore. Counselling can help you understand what’s happening and find a way forward.
I offer counselling for anxiety and depression in Bristol and online. My approach is warm, relational and grounded in the belief that you don’t need to be “fixed” — but you might need support to understand yourself better, process difficult feelings, and find steadier ground.
Anxiety and depression often have roots in the past — old patterns, difficult experiences, or ways of being that were once protective but no longer serve you. Together, we can explore these patterns with curiosity and compassion, creating space for a more accepting relationship with yourself.
Anxiety and depression show up differently for everyone, but some common experiences include:
- feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or unable to switch off
- low mood, numbness or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
- racing thoughts, worry spirals or constant self-criticism
- difficulty sleeping, eating, or concentrating
- withdrawing from relationships or avoiding situations
- feeling like you’re just going through the motions
- physical symptoms like racing heart, fatigue, or panic
How counselling can help
Counselling offers a space to pause, reflect and make sense of what’s happening. We’ll explore the blocks that keep you stuck, pay attention to what your anxiety or low mood might be trying to tell you, and work towards a more compassionate sense of self.
Big, difficult feelings such as anxiety and depression are hard to ignore, or push away, no matter how much we might want some relief. But they are also responses to real experiences from the past, and if we listen to and accept them then often, we find change unfolds naturally.
This isn’t about positive thinking or quick fixes. It’s deeper work that takes time and commitment. But it can lead to transformation — reduced anxiety, a lifting of low mood, increased self-acceptance, and a clearer sense of who you are.
I will encourage you to come to sessions even when you really don’t feel like it. This is often when the most powerful work takes place. And I invite you to bring all of yourself — even the parts that feel unacceptable. Your frustration, anger and shame are all welcome. I will accept you exactly as you are, always.
